As if Amazon Prime wasn’t luxurious already. Amazon is delivering an RKO to brick & mortar department stores.
Amazon Luxury Stores. That’s the new name of the section that will be added to Amazon’s online stores.
- The e-commerce designer store will launch featuring products from Oscar de la Renta’s pre-fall & fall-winter 2020 collections. More designer brands will be added soon…
- Fancy features will be added to the online store, such as 360-degree viewing and the ability to view clothes on different body types & skin tones.
VIP only. At first, only select invited Prime members will be able to shop the new section, but the rest of Prime members will have access later.
How Does it Affect My Wallet?
Another blow to department stores. Department stores that sell designer fashion have been quickly falling out of style with shoppers.
- Lord & Taylor (the oldest department store in the US) and Neiman Marcus have been stricken by bankruptcy in 2020.
Designer goes e-com. The fall of department stores is causing more designer brands to switch to online platforms to get more exposure to customers.
