Instagram is not having your grandmother on speed dial, nor is it a recipe for an instant grandmother. (I really hope you liked one of those jokes).
For those people who’ve been living under a rock for the last several years, Instagram is an online image sharing social media platform. People love taking pictures with snazzy filters, uploading them, and getting that hit of dopamine from receiving likes. Instagram also has a fancy “Stories” feature that’s pretty similar to Snapchat’s story function.
Like many of the social media platforms, many businesses have swarmed onto it. It seems like Facebook is a necessity for all companies, but other social channels aren’t considered as heavily. Since Instagram is owned by Facebook it may be worth some consideration. In fact, I believe most companies need an Instagram page!
Here are 3 things that should convince you to create a branded Instagram page.
1. 1 Billion Monthly Active Users
Not a typo! It’s correct, 1 BILLION active monthly users are on Instagram. That figure is according to SproutSocial. So, if you’re having trouble getting eyeballs on your content or brand, Instagram is a solid choice to go to.
Do I need to convince you even more? Fine. According to SproutSocial, 80% of these active users follow a business. You should be interpreting that as people are looking forward to brand updates and brand-related content. It’s almost like someone who’s watching tv but instead of drooling at the screen when Game of Thrones is on they’re looking for the commercials.
2. Engagement King (Behind Facebook)
Ads and content don’t matter if no one is paying attention. Great news! Instagram users, on average, spend about 53 minutes a day on the platform! Let’s do some quick math: 53 minutes X 30 days = 1590 minutes/month. In other words, that’s 26.5 hours to reach a monthly audience of 1 billion people.
If you’re not itching to sign up for Instagram yet, how about the fact that Instagram is right behind Facebook when it comes to engagement! Instagram has a high volume of users to its site, people looking to interact with brands, AND the users are more responsive.
Go make your business an Instagram page right now.
3. Businesses Are All Over Instagram
Hootsuite tells us that 71% of US businesses are on Instagram. Your eyes should be cartoonishly popping out of your skull. That’s nearly 3 out of 4 businesses.
Some people might read that as “Oh, I guess it’s saturated. I missed my time.” Those folks miss the point. Having so many brands on the platform, 1 billion users, and a highly engaged audience means it’s a magical platform to research the competition. By monitoring the other businesses one can leverage techniques other brands are using, and also learn from their mistakes.
It’s not always about converting people over, sometimes it’s about watching the competition, catching a new trend, and learning new ways to connect with customers. Know the market, understand it, and win them over.
Don’t tell me that you don’t want access to 1 billion active users who are engaging with content. Fine, maybe you don’t. At the very least you probably want to know what your competition is up to. Instagram will give you that opportunity. While you’re building out your social media strategy definitely take some time and consider launching on Instagram. It’s an awesome way to show off beautiful, creative shots of your workspace and get some eyes on your brand.
They say it goes down in the Instagram DMs, but it can’t if your company isn’t on there!
